The term Shaman has become an umbrella term to describe the position of spiritual leader and healer in traditional cultures around the world. The term is in fact the traditional name used in the ancient Turkish and Mongolian cultures. I would like to acknowledge that each traditional tribe, culture, and nation has its own word to describe the people in their midst who have the talent, skills, and dedication to provide this important function.

Shamanic Drumming
Please bring your own drum.
Drum Journeying
Please bring your own drum.

Drum therapy is an ancient approach that uses rhythm to promote healing and self-expression. From the shamans of Tuva to the Minianka healers of West Africa, therapeutic rhythm techniques have been used for thousands of years to create and maintain physical, mental, and spiritual health. Current research is now verifying the therapeutic effects of ancient rhythm techniques. Recent research reviews indicate that drumming accelerates physical healing, boosts the immune system, and produces feelings of well-being, a release of emotional trauma, and the reintegration of self.

The Shamanic Journey is a time-honoured method of inner consultation. It's a way of communicating with your inner self and retrieving important information. Your inner self is in constant communication with all aspects of your environment, seen and unseen. You need only journey within to find answers to your questions. The spirit journey is not always what people expect, and sometimes there is uncertainty as to what one should experience in altered states. A drum journey is an individual experience in nonordinary reality; therefore, experiences vary from person to person and from journey to journey. And that is normal and expected.

Four Directions and Medicine Wheel  Meditation for Self-Healing

The Medicine Wheel is a traditional tool of the First Nations people of what is now southern Alberta and northern Wyoming that helps seekers find answers within the four quadrants of the compass. Traditionally, the cardinal directions also include Father Sky (above) and Mother Earth (below). The term "Medicine" is used by First Nations people to indicate inner spiritual energy and healing, or an enlightening experience. The central essence of the medicine wheel is that each of us must make our own choices. Not all of the resulting experiences are good ones. Life is an ongoing journey of personal redemption and evolution. The practice of the Medicine Wheel helps us work through the obstacles along the way. This course is an introduction to that process.

Like other Shamanic practices, meditation can be used as a way to access our inner messages, and as a way to learn our personal paths to healing. You will explore creating personal guided meditations that may help you clear your chakras, change how you perceive your reality and your healing process, as well as journey into spiritual realms that will help you feel the supported and loved taht is your birthright as you travel this earth walk.

Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat if you prefer to meditate in the lotus position. For the rest of us there will be chairs.

Working with Pendulums  Working with Crystals

A pendulum is a small weight on the end of a 6" - 8" piece of string or chain. This includes special made pendulums of metal, stone, or crystal that you purchase, or it can mean a necklace with a pendant that is heavy enough that it holds the chain straight down. We often develop a very personal relationship with our pendulums. Pendulums are used for a number of reasons. They can be used to connect (and retrieve answers from) your subconscious mind, your body and the cells of your body, your internal spiritual self known as the Higher Self, or the other spirits that accompany you through life. We are never truly alone.

In this short course you will be introduced to your pendulum and we will explore and practice using a pendulum. Please bring a pendulum with you that you have chosen for your own use.

There are many ways to work with a crystal to benefit from its healing properties, but first you have to know what each crystal's energy can accomplish for you. There are books and books written about crystals, but in the end it is your personal relationship with a crystal that determines how each crystal will work for you in your life and in a given situation.

In this course we will explore a crystal chakra spread, talk about the energies of each stone, and then individually ask them how they will work with you.

Small crystals sets will be provided for this course.
